This is my third year at Gilmer Intermediate School and my third year at Gilmer Independent School District. My family and I moved from Virginia in 2020 and Gilmer ISD became home. My first year here I was hired as the 5th and 6th grade math resource and inclusion special education teacher however my second year I switched to both math and ELA for the 6th grade teams only. This year, I am the 6th grade special education case manager for all 6th grade students receiving either inclusion and/or resource services as well as the 6th grade resource math and ELA teacher.
I teach
* 6th grade ELA resource during first (7:50-9:05) and second period (9:05-10:15).
*6th pride small groups 11:45-12:15
*6th grade Math resource during 7th (12:45-1:55) and 8th (1:55-3:05) periods.
Previously taught Special education K-5 at Southwestern Elementary School in Chesapeake, Virginia for the past 3 years. I have taught Kindergarten Special Education ELA and Math, First Grade Special Education ELA and Math, and Fourth Grade Special Education ELA and Math.
Prior career as a MH/IDD case manager for 10 years, Part C Early Intervention Service Coordinator for 4 years, and Interned as an inhome autistic therapist for 2 years
My husband, Daniel and I live with our youngest two children Sara and Nicholas on a small farm. Our oldest daughter Mia is attending Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma and our two oldest sons live in local towns outside of Gilmer with their families (we have 4 precious grandchildren).
We have two dogs- Nay-Nay (Cane Corso Italian Mastiff) and Scooter (Beagle-Mix); four cats (Mama Kitty, Bunny, Simba, Bobbie and Riley), a goat, pig, two sheep, 21 chickens, and a Leopard gecko.
When not teaching or doing research/studying I enjoy spending time with my family, creating decorations, drawing, painting, reading, scrapbooking, taking photographs, watching movies, attending worship concerts/events, fellowshiping with my local church family and cooking (I love creating new dishes for my family to try).
